CARE WORKER
This project contains series of portraits of carers in their own homes.
I deliberately removed them from their workplace environment. I’m amongst them and I knew most of the girls quite well, I had a good insight of the job.
I wanted to focus on them, show the gentle nature and empathy I see in them. I also see compassion, courageousness and kindness, amongst many other things.
I feel care workers are undervalued. They give the people they care for something that doctors and nurses don’t always have enough time for - seeing the person as a whole person, which validates them, not just someone who has been labelled with disease.
Working as a carer i had a chance to really know people; it’s a true and deep connection. It can be physically and emotionally challenging but it gave me an opportunity to learn so much about myself too, my own fears, insecurities and gave me the confidence to be the person I am now.
